To be blunt, Ohio State playing at Indiana isn’t one of my favorite road trips in the Big Ten.
First, most OSU-Indiana games aren’t compelling football spectacles. Second, traffic is a nightmare when a big crowd meets small roads and a traffic plan that usually has to handle a crowd only around half the size of the one that shows up when Ohio State comes to Bloomington.
My solution to the traffic problem when I go to Bloomington is to arrive five hours before kickoff. No traffic then. People who arrived closer to kickoff universally said it was a struggle to get to their lots and that the new traffic pattern that Indiana announced would be in effect wasn’t necessarily being followed by the folks directing traffic.
Ohio State-Indiana drew 51,500 fans. Indiana averaged 35,000 for its first two home games and 32,000 for last season’s home games. So, I guess what Ohio State fans see when they go to Bloomington is something like what Columbus would look like on game day if 150,000 people had tickets for a Buckeyes game.
Ok. I am an stalwart OSU fan now living in Indianapolis. Yes; I am still stuck in “Blooming” traffic. Unbelievable!!
